10th February 2023 - Disco Transit Green Long Wheel base and Hi Roof Conversion

Published on 10 February 2023 at 15:41

Hi Folks.

Here we go again................

Last night I added some small jobs to the list below, some are just smaller chunks of existing work, others are to bring some jobs to completion.

This weekend, subject to the weather I am hoping to get some of the boarding cut and installed in place, this will be a massive improvement as a lot of the framework, will be covered up :) :)

and if the weekend goes a swell as last weekend did, we should get the boarding out, that I am ready for done.
Then it is just a case of do we leave the boards as they are or paint them ??

It would also be nice to finally have the kitchen unit completely stripped and start to get that painted and covered over before Putting everything back, after it has been repaired and cleaned.

I have spoken to Ken today, The transit is booked in on Tuesday 14th Feb, to have the roof rack fitted and to look at mounting the water tanks (Subject to time)

Double Bonus job, to have worked out and cut the bed frame & have it mounted!

I forgot, I turned off the power last night, so the battery is still not charged up and the other one is flat!
So it looks like I will be having a bit of a clean up for a while...

This area, I spent a lot of time on working yesterday, and did some painting and left it over night, to dry.

Today it is all in my way. so I am gonna have to move it all around, so I have some space to work in..

That looks a lot better, now I can get on with some small jobs.

I have found a 7mm drill, in the workshop so I get drilling, making use of all the existing holes that are in the board.

A few holes line up, so I have to re-use some of the older clips as they are 8mm

there is no metal behind the board, but the new framework, I have been making for the kitchen unit will hold it all in place.

That's the last of the holes (with metal behind) all clipped in place..
And a job finished.

All the wiring I am planning to run along the rear batons and into the box, that will cover the wheel arch up, then into the framework of the van.

Ones the parts arrive for the kitchen unit and are mounted into place, I can then slide the kitchen into it's final home and bolt it down. (Hopefully next week)

My Next small job :) :)

Have given the rear wheel arch a real good wipe down and wiped over with a tak cloth

And I start to insulate the wheel arch, this material also deadens the sound.

When I ran out of the same stuff from the workshop, I tried to buy some 6mm thick, but it was quiet a bit cheaper o buy 3mm and just double it up..

this 3mm stuff, tears easily and it sticks to everything, so it is just take ya time and get it right 1st time as too expensive to throw away!

That's it all finished and another small job completed :) :)

I thought, I would finish this kitchen unit framework.
But I soon realised,

I do not know just how long I can go, until the unit fits into place against the wheel arch.

So I move onto carrying on insulating the sides and the roof, where I can get to them...

Again I am doubling up the insulation and it is coming along nicely.

That is the 2nd layer on.
I cannot reach the rest, so I will look to see were to go to next..

But it is time for a late lunch...

That's another panel insulated..

and another

Handy space for me to store the spray glue, until I need it :) :)

another cubby hole insulated

This one was very fiddly as there are no dividing plates, and trying to get the insulation in the right place, took some doing..

Altho I tore some of the insulation, whilst trying to get it in the framework, it came in useful in the end..

but we are steadily getting the van insulated.

I am now in the bathroom, insulating the side wall.
Only a single layer, as will be using the DODO insulation, we started to use in the bathroom/kitchen wall.

It's a shame not all the panels are like this!

back to the more awkward panels

Nearly all done, with the black insulation.
I will not add the DODO insulation until we are ready to panel the wall...

That's the bathroom basic insulation all done.

Fingers crossed we can get the roof panels started tomorrow.
I am not sure if we will be able to fix them in place, that will depend on the sort of day we have and if the weather will co-operate with us...
