10th July 2023 - Disco Transit Green Long Wheel base and Hi Roof Conversion

Published on 11 July 2023 at 05:28

Hi Folks....... Matt's turned up

And after a much needed brew we head outside to the transit.

We are both pretty sure that we know what the issue is, but will it solve the issue ???

Replacement fuel filter housing.

From what I have read and from what Matt informs me I agree that 99% of all fuel issues are caused by this unit going faulty!.

So out comes my faulty unit.

We remove the fuel filter that came with the replacement fuel filter housing unit

But the new genuine fuel filter refuses to fit properly!.

So we put the old fuel filter back on for now, so we can try and get the engine up and running.

I will keep the new fuel filter for now, but if we have to buy a new fuel housing unit, then we will use on that or if not will put up for sale.

Replacement fuel filter and housing is bolted to the bulkhead.

and Matt starts to bleed the system, it takes ages but eventually, we get the system bled.

Whilst we are bleeding the system, we discuss the possibility that if this unit is faulty, that we will have to bite the bullet and buy a brand new filter housing.

Not something we can afford right now (made worse by the twat who broke the rear door window), but we cannot take a gamble on any trouble when we head of to Scotland!.

We notice that K&B motors had removed the EGR bolts and left it hanging there,

So we had a good look around the engine and found more parts had been removed/undone!.

So we have sorted them out.

I am mega pissed off about this as there was no need for it !!!!!!!!!

So did we get the transit running ????

Well NO!.

Altho the battery charger had been on for 24 hours, the battery was flat.
We even tried jump starting it from Matt's van, but just not enough juice to get it fired up.

So I got the new battery charger that goes with the generator out and hook that up.

So now have to wait till tomorrow morning, for hopefully a fully charged battery.

I will check the dates on the battery as it may still be in warranty, just in case the battery has gone bad.

Altho we did not get the Engine running, Matt n me get along freely as he worked and had some good banter.
So it looks like I have found a replacement person to look after the engine and mechanics for our transit.

Unfortunately he does not do body work.

We also discuss about what happens next if the fuel housing does not cure the issues and we need to have the fuel pump fitted.

From reading up, I realise it is not a job, to be done at the roadside.
So we would have to arrange to get it to his bosses workshop, to have it done.

But that is a worse case scenario, and one we hope will not be needed.

To to make a start once again on the conversion.

So this area is were the fridge/freezer will live.

So after measuring it all out, it will be time to make the frame.

This will also be the table with a extra leaf on it.

Time to seal these holes up, with some duct tape and insulation to hold it all in place.

That looks better and will cut down on some of the draughts.

same size hole, but only a small area and Lynne n me soon have it covered up.

We just need to wipe the van down and we will be ready to add insulation, hopefully tomorrow.

These holes are duct taped up, to stop the damp getting to the plywood boarding.

And finally today, Lynne n Michael carry in the new Fridge/Freezer unit.

Which fits snugly were it will live, ok it is a couple of inches wider that I thought.

But that is not an issue.

Hopefully will start on the framework in the next few days.

Finally we have some real progress, ok not as much as we had hoped for, but it is still progress.

I feel great to be outside and pottering around, I just hope that continues.

It took me just about an hour to get myself thru the house door, but that was a battle won today.

All being well another update tomorrow.....
