11th July 2023 - Disco Transit Green Long Wheel base and Hi Roof Conversion

Published on 12 July 2023 at 07:06

Hi Folks.... Back again.................

Well fingers crossed that I am well enough to get at least a few hours pottering in the transit today.

Lynne n me had a chat last night, about the fuel filter housing issue.

And decided not to wait to see if transit runs ok on the replacement, but to order a brand new genuine ford Housing and filter kit.

Not cheap, but we cannot take the gamble, when we go away to Scotland.

Fingers crossed should be here on Monday..

Todays job, is to get 2 of the 3 layers of insulation here, as this is where the fridge/freezer & table unit will live.

I find a rag to give it a good wipe down.

I undo the 3 bolts and space out this thin strip.

We have decided it will be easier to match the next board up, if it was all level.

I have marked the board below, so I can line up and drill the bolt holes, when we fit the boarding.

I tried several ways of cutting this strip, but in the gave up and just pulled it outwards until it broke!

And some sanding of the edge of the broken board, tidy's it up nicely.

Up goes the 1st layer of insulation.
I have used a load of off-cuts as will not be seen and have a bag full to use up.

I get out the next roofing panel, to make a surface, I can use.

An off-cut of aluminium insulation is laid out

As this off-cut of the 2nd insulation is not quite long enough, I do not spray glue all thw way across.

the 2nd layer of insulation gets a nice coat of spray glue.

and after 3 minutes

up it goes, I use the roller to smooth out all the air pockets.

Which was a big mistake as my hands started to shake!

So it is time for a break and hopefully they will settle down and I can carry on for another 30 mins or so....

The fridge freezer has side air vents/fans installed.

So have brought 2 of these to put into the unit that will cover the fridge freezer.

which hopefully will allow plenty of ventilation for the unit.

I have tried to start the engine.
Altho the battery had plenty of power (but according to the charger was still charging the battery).

It refused to start..

So I texted Matt to let him know the bad news, and that we have ordered a new fuel filter and housing.

So if it arrives on Monday Matt will nip over after work to fit for me...

Lynne n me have had several chats whilst in the transit, and we once again have some sort of order, of what work will be done when.

There is so much still to do (let alone the wiring up of everything, which I am waiting till we have all the outlets in place before we do that job).

Plans are still very much flexible, as we want to use up as much of the supplies we already have in.
This will create more working space and make the jobs to do, just that much easier to do...
