14th December 2023 - Disco Transit Green Long Wheel base and Hi Roof Conversion

Published on 15 December 2023 at 04:38

Hi Folks..... Finally have something done.

Not what I was hoping.

But after a week of hitting the transit groups, asking for someone to fit a replacement window on the transit, I gave up!

It isn't as I was asking for it to be done for pennies, but hey how, as I am finding out people do not want to earn some spare cash anymore. (I had £60.00 ready to pay someone, who only had to clean replacement window, clear out old glass pre the surface ( I had all the prep and sealant stuff here) so not a hard job!.

In fact upto about 5-6 years ago I would have done it myself, but now just not able too....

So I phoned round the small window replacement companies near me, after after being turned down by several who wanted to supply the glass (but could not get till sometime in January!!)

I found a husband and wife team, who would install my glass, but would use there own cleaning and sealing compounds.

When and how much I ask ?

Sometime later today, about £80.00 ok!

Ok it is £80.00 I do not have lying around, and will slow the purchasing of teh wiring and components, but need to get the window done 1st.

Yep I will be waiting, so his wife has arranged to text me, when he is on his way, he has 4 other jobs to do before me......

Aluminum Alloy Multi-Function Six-fold Ruler, Angle Finder, Universal Angler Ruler, Metal Drill Guide Locator, Tile Opening Hole Angle Template Tool, Angle Copier

Been ordering from Temu again!.

I have been waiting on this item for a few weeks now, and means I can now get on with the conversion.

Multifunctional Measuring ABS Plastic Movable Four-fold Ruler Multi-angle Ruler Four-sided Ruler Square Ruler 4-fold Ruler Folding Ruler

Another Temu buy, But I need them and as they cheaper for exactly the same item from elsewhere, I ordered.

These like above came from Taiwan, so not the usual £1.00 fodder and took longer to arrive, but as I still not really well enough to do much to the transit, I could wait a bit.....

Portable Power-assisted Spray Gun With Self-spraying Paint, Compatible Handle For Automotive Painting

No where near the stage, where I need this item, but will go into the rest of the paint box items, ready for when spring arrives and I can finally get on with sorting the transits skirts out....

60Pcs Solid Cleaner Car Windscreen Wiper Effervescent Tablets

These were so cheap I thought I would give them a try in the transit!...

Car GPS Mini Tracker GF-07 Real-time Tracking Anti-theft And Anti-lost Locator Strong Magnetic Installation SIM Message Locator

Besides the main tracker, I have already installed 4 of these in various places and this is the last one.

It seams to keep the insurance companies a bit happier, altho they do not recognise these trackers, But they do recognise the thatcham tracker, and also have noted that these ones are installed as backups.

Shaper With Lock Irregular Ruler Contour Gauge Woodworking Measuring Contour Gauge Simulation Gauge Tool Scribing Arc Gauge

Another tool I have been waiting on.

There is a large bit of Ply in the back of the transit, that needs shaping to the body of the transit, but we could never get the measurements right!.

Hopefully this will cure that issue.

I am out of practice with using the camera!

I had forgotten to take some pics of the transits cab, before I started!

Let us just say you could not see the passenger floor or seat areas!

In mitigation, the van has been away most of the year and things just got left in the cab, like battery charger, old Injectors and many more bits, some just rubbish!.

It has taken me some 2 hours just to clear the floor and put stuff away (as best as I could) for now and put rubbish in some old shopping bags.

2 of the 3 shopping bags are full of rubbish, waiting to be taken into the house.

The 3rd bag has some bath towels, that I had soaked, whilst the incontinence continues to play havoc with me.

That bag will be taken in when I go indoors and put in the washing with the rest of today's towels!....

The central locking remote stopped working a few days ago! so I tried several times to reprogram the module which according to the programming was accepted, but still would not work.

I did notice that using the key in the only lock, to get the alarm/ immobiliser / rear door locks to work was very hit n miss!.

So I have ordered a separate remote unit and will see if I can find some wd40 and 3 in 1 oil and try to lubricate the door locking mechanism, to see if that helps.

As the window guy has not yet arrived, I decided to open the side door and see what state everything is in.

It is a real mess, even tho we tied everything down tight the various trips on recovery wagons and in garages managed to create havoc.

I need to find a home for the canopy we brought for £50.oo the other week.

I need to find it's details and see if I can find a bag for it, as well as to how it should be wrapped to put away.

No chance of moving it today as I could not move it, let alone pick it up!!

Even the light has fallen down and that was securely attached to the roof!.

This is gonna take ages to sort thru and tidy up!.

before I can do any more work on the conversion.....

First Stop Window Screens - have arrived.

I found these on google search, they were the only company who could fit me in today and more importantly use the replacement window I had brought.

So Time to stop, which is good as my legs by this time were very unsteady.

It took him a fare while as I had over secured the van and used 2 reels of quality duct tape !

But all the old glass is now out and the steel, wooden, and polystyrene, I used to give it strength is removed

Just some of the stuff removed, the steel & wood sheets are in the back, ready to be re used.

After removing old sealant and cleaning, it is time to install the replacement window.

Altho we are having a great time chatting away, Stuart continues to get the job done at a nice steady pace.

And already the doors are a looking far better and tidier...

And finally just some tape to hold it all in place, till the sealant goes off overnight.

Ok it cost me £80.00, that I just did not have to spend and has come out of the money I had put aside for the electrics, but was worth any penny.

Stuarts company contact details will appear in the links page in the next few days..

All in all a very slow day working on the transit, very much limited to my lack of movement and my knee joints even with the zimmer frame giving way, really slowing me down.

Not having much strength and a failure to be able to lift stuff has caused a lot of things, just to be left today and I am not happy about it, but I just do not know what to do....

Hopefully tomorrow, I will be able to do a bit more, but will have to wait n see what reactions I have overnight.
