16th April 2014 - Tretower Court and Tower

12th - 16th April 2014 - Easter Hols in Wales.

Lynne's younger sister Kim & Andy are getting married, so no excuse needed for a family holiday away around the Beacons.....

Loads of pics from the family, I have tried to get rid of duplicates, but some will slip thru.

I have given most visits into separate folders, as some days there are just too many pics.

Todays visit is to Tretower Court and Tower.

Pics taken by Lynne Osborn, Zoe Osborn, and myself.

Good Morning Folks.

Today we are going to visit Tretower Castle.
On the way we seem to be in a traffic jam!

But it did not hold us up very long.....

We soon arrive at Tretower Court.

Luckily we are members of the Scottish National Trust. (far better value and cheaper the English National Trust!

We are soon parked up and looking forward to having a good look around.

As you can see I'm out of the car and slowly waddling my way around

It's looking good for me, so far plenty of easy access...

Plenty of seating available, which makes my day a lot easier, with loads of rest stops as required..

This tower looks Very impressive from the outside.

The detail in the stonework is still very impressive.
Its very hard to spot any repairs or maintenance.

As a working farm, some restoration areas are easier to spot.
But too us, it's all been done extremely well, plus it's great to see that its a working farm as well as being a national monument.

Finally am inside one of the towers, even with no roof it is apparent that these ruins are well looked after.

Michael inspecting the walls..

Always good, when you come across these small story boards, giving you the brief history details.

Impressive and the floor joist holes still very visible and intact.

It's not often we manage to get a pic of Michael's face, it's kinda weird with both our boys a real struggle to get them to go out.

But once they are out they really enjoy themselves....

What a place to stop for a quick breather..

The views are stunning,

Under the ground floor.

Inner court yard.

Awesome fire place, altho not needed today, but it's obviously used.

Michael's trying not to let on he has found teh mead :) :)

Mainly original timber, but it not only looks awesome, but feels it as well.

Some serious money spent on the timbers!.

once it blends in will be hard to spot that timbers have been replaced.

We have finished Breakfast :) :)

Breads not real tho :( :(

Sadly the barrels are empty..

Michael with Lynne in hiding...

Zoe

In honesty I was having a rest

and then my life n soul mate joins me

Those roof timbers are to die for.....
And the wall coverings are just awesome.

The Gardens

Please don't feed the inmates

We have membership with Scottish Heritage, so we got in for half price, but Lynne says they didn't charge us anything  so real bonus

I didnt go in the tower, but Lynne says there are steps upward - maybe another time

Its time to head back home, its getting late and we know we all got a long day ahead of us tomorrow

All in all a cracking day out, and I suspect everyone will sleep very well tonight.

You always have excellent family adventures out M8. I really like the tours you have post. I bet everyone was exhausted after a walk about this incredible place.

Steve, Many thanks for your comments. This day was part of our holiday in Scotland, after we lost Tim.
he used to go to Scotland regally with his ex work m8 from Morrisons and Timothy always came back extremely happy and very refreshed.

As the rest of us had not been lucky enough to go to Scotland, Donald and his wife offered to show us around. They knew were we could book holiday chalet cheep, as they always stayed at the same place and knew the site owner very well.

They showed us to several of Timothy's favourite places and loads more places he like to go to, some were very small and could be finished in 20 or 30 mins.

We always said we would go back there, but we had no money left and my health meant driving that far and being able to do anything made it unpractical for us.
