Today finds me back at Western-Super-Mare and in Maz's workshop.
Maz as had become our practice, had left me alone whilst I sat down next to Tim and we talked for a while, After some time I went n spoke to Maz and we got started.
Hopefully you will enjoy these pics n text as we 3 (Timothy, Maz n Me) continue to progress....
both Front Engine Mounting plates now tack welded in place and together.
Next job is to remove the right side of the old frame engine cradle as its in our way!
Jack is just a precaution to stop any engine movement
and we are now ready to undo the right side frame jig mounts
and we are now ready to undo the right side frame jig mounts
and move it to under the new frame
Tim's Frame rail is now sitting on the Jig, and we are now closer, to be able to remove whats left of the original donor bikes frame.
This part of the right engine cradle is also in our way,
But we think very carefully before we start to cut it up and pull it out!
Cutting Timothy's new side engine/swing arm mount
Meanwhile Maz starts cutting
A bit here
A bit there
Maz is on here knees :) :)
I'm sure she just likes to create sparks :) :)
And the Final Cut
And out comes this bit of the original frame.
and this bit also soon gets cut out
And finally
after some twisting about - Out comes this section of the original frame.
Space
Looks a lot cleaner now the old frames been removed
And we can visualise easier how this section will look, after all we knew what we wanted to achieve, but till we got here, you never know if you end up with what you want!
(or is that the Shed Builders view in me ? )
now for the boring part - measuring and lining up
(Its here that The people like Maz earn there money!,
Most people do not appreciate just how long it takes for just a small part of the build, It can and often does take a few hours.)
Making sure our final choice is the right one.
This is were a lot of time is lost when your working on a project that is away from the norm of what you normally build
Its all about striving to go just that bit further and stretching your mind to fit.
(Remember I am a shed builder and Maz is the professional, so each stage in this build is discussed, thought thru, diff ideas ETC, by both of us.
Altho I will happily admit to Maz's ideas are 99.99% correct and are used, As a team we have a lotta respect for each other, so no embarrasment, bad feelings, disgruntlement that you often here about. we always agree 100% before each stage and serves us well).
we clamp up the frame to the jig for safety.
Yep exhaust clamps are just the job for clamping the frame to the frame jig!
Now that just leaves the left underside engine cradle and the top engine mount brace to be removed at a later time
From this pic look at the engine mounts at the bottom.
No wonder nothing lined up !!
Time for me to nip into Chrissy's workshop,
Shes a bit shy so I wont post her face as requested,
But looking at some of the work she turns out,
She has no need to be.
drilling the 16mm hole for the swing arm spindle.
Time to bore out a 35mm hole
Brings back happy memories of when i worked in engineering workshops many years ago.
But I am not well enough to operate the machinery, Plus I would never dream of asking Maz to use her tools (unless she offers)
That's the hole bored out
Once Maz has cleaned up the part of the frame. it's taken to Chrissies workshop, were she had already finished machining up this swing arm bolt mount!
The Swing arm bush is so tight it will need a little cleaning to fit
now that extremely fine tolerances :)
Back in the main workshop,
After checking that the frame has not moved,
Its time to start on the rear bottom engine mount.
Timothy's Frame is now starting to take shape and we are starting to see,
what we scribbled down and discussed!
After some partial cutting n bending its ready to be welded
Just waiting for it to call down,
unfortunately I have to leave and pick up Lynne and the kids,
So after a brief discussion I have to leave Maz to it.
If all goes well - towards end of May should see engine mounts all finished.
Front end made and in the frame
and we are hoping to have the new swing arm built and fitted as well
ready for Lynne n me to come back for sitting and foot board fitting and to decide were the foot clutch and rear brake levers will be fitted
