Hi Folks
Back again working on Lynne's Computer :) :)
Not gonna say anything about yesterday best left to life n grimes update!
So lets move onwards.
The DVD drive refused to budge! the screws just kept turning, but even with help, they would not come out!
I do not want to damage the drive bays, so went to process some of Saturdays eBay sales and think!!
In the end, I fell I have no choice but to pry the case over the screw heads.
So I find a suitable screwdriver and force it into the slot and raise the drive bay frame and with a tug on the front the screw head disappears, so move the case and do the same to the other side.
I do this several times
And out comes the dvd drive. :) :)
i know this is a working unit, so after a quick wipe down will be on eBay soon start price £1.99
Luckily I have not done to much damage to the hard drive bays, so a quick tap with the rubber mallet should pull it all in line.
Damm I forgot to clean the hard drive bays!, I will get onto that shortly.
But another issue, is that I do not have the correct adaptor mounts to mount the new SSD drive!!
I have temporally propped it up on the unsecured end for now.
I have brought a 3.5" to 2.5" adaptor, but again is not expected to the new year!.
So I will have a look at the parts for my computer to see if I can find one I can use, and
I will then use the new one in my computer.
In goes the DVD RW drive and is only held in with one screw at this point as it is all gonna have to come to bits again, in the next few days.
For now it is above the SSD drive, but when we get my old chair out of here and the table in, I will test sit the base unit on the table and find if she would prefur it higher up in the case.
It is time to start wiring all the cables to the Motherboard and I start to tie the cables, to help air flow and keep things tidy.
As I do not know how long it will be before Lynne asks me to solve/upgrade something.
But like Timothy's & Mine computers it will join the yearly strip down and clean and check all the fans, to help it stay in tip top condition.
SSD and DVDRW all connected up :) :)
will soon be time to fire up the computer for its first time.
Which reminds me I need to find a keyboard and mouse for the computer!!
I have propped the corner of the motherboard for now, with a bit of polystyrene, Till I am ready to remove the motherboard and move the mount you can see into place.
For now I have also added Michael's old hard drive, as it has winjows 7 on it.
I am waiting on Lynne to tell me if she will be happy with that or would rather have winjows 10.
Neither operating system that I know, altho I can just about use 7!
I will remove all Michael's installed software and strip down winjows and see how it goes.
I will be using the 92" projector screen as a monitor, so will be interesting, as I am planning on doing the same in the Transit conversion, altho only about half that size...
But I am still interested how it performs :) :) .
I have found 2 more SATA leads and all is connected up.
I must remove the fans, with the broken wires!!
It will tidy up the case, just that bit more.
And it will make me feel better knowing it has been done to my best ability.
I cheated and downloaded a manual for the mother board.
Always a good idea with Asus Motherboards I have found over the years. there was 4 manuals for this motherboard, but for this one the general manual gave me the details I was after and soon had the front panel's wires in the right place, I did notice that 2 of the single sockets are loose on the motherboard pins, I will sort this out on the final rebuild...
Amongst my items, to finish my build I find the correct adaptor plate, so I have ordered a replacement, and will use mine to install Lynne's SSD drive properly.
As usual when putting items into the cases hdd cages, I get them the wrong way round, and do not realise until I try to install the cage!.
And I soon have Michael's old HDD in place
as well, for Lynne to use for storage of files etc.
In goes the cage and is screwed into place and everything is re cabled up!
I am not far away from being ready to start the computer up for the 1st time, hopefully later on, if all goes well.
on checking underneath the motherboard, there is no slots for the motherboard mount to fit into, so it looks as if my temp bodge will have to stay....
Time to remove this old fan, it has been in there since I built Michael's Computer way back when, so it's lasted well.
But is now in the bin
And the rear fan comes out and goes straight into the bin as well.
Now I just have to find the ones I brought for my computer but did not use!
