Right today''s, all about the Prep work and finalise just how we are gonna fit a side door to the workshop.
Normally not an issue but with split roof beam,
badly bowed uprights and the outside boards bowed as well. and not a straight line or angle anywhere !
Its not gonna be easy or a quick job.
As usual Strawbs is with me - Huge Thanks M8 as always
Sadly the 1st comment left on this post, was unrecoverable from the harddrive crash!
Stephen Osborn - its taking longer than i planned and blown the budget as well - but its made a huge difference in there
Anne McGarrie - Rome wasn't built in a day and all that twaddle, but take it from me you are doing a great job x
Stephen Osborn - its doing its job - keeping my mind off next month
Anne McGarrie - Just take it steady, we are all behind you for next month x
Firstly we move timber boards out into the brown shed, to give us a bit more room.
This is the double glazed door frame we will be using.
Its too bloody tall or my walls are too short take your pick
this lovely 4x5" timber was in the brown shed,
and should prove ideal for the footings for the door
All this has gotta go .....
As its currently in my way at the moment.
The wood pile, that we have salvaged some 2x3" battons from.
Also young Michael and myself will be moving the whole pile tomorrow and Monday
God only knows were to at the moment,
but we need to have access to the current side door and to fit the door footings.
Strawbs is busy de-nailing the 3x2
Whilst I start to empty the all this stuff from under the bench.
I find a nissin front caliper, hopefully it will replace my seized one if its the same side
That's the top shelf cleared
and the floor underneath is soon clear as well
got fed up tripping over wires, so fitted an gang socket in the electrics cupboard and plugged everything into it.
and tidied up the other cables to the roof for now
the hole were he fridge was, is now filled up with stuff from under the bench
also having to loose a bit more floor space
CBR1000F engine in bits - have someone interested in some if not all of it
Box of cbr1000f engine bits
I find a jigsaw with a broken blade
that just don't want to come out, so its time to strip it down
we try everything
wd40 mole grips hammer in the end chucked it in the rubbish,
shame as it was nearly new
After a sweep up its measuring time
We need to secure these bench legs and its important for the door frame we are gonna install that these a perfectly level
and then we screw it to the floor to keep it all in line
time to make up the centre beam to stop the shelf bowing,
again the wood is salvaged from the wood pile outside
Meanwhile I get on with the bench lid
and it soon receives its first coat of paint
and the bit in front of the tool box.
Strawbs is still sorting the shelf out
So I give the front of the bench a coat of paint
then I spot the door we panelled yesterday
and it soon has its first coat.
looking forward from the bench its amazing just how much brighter it looks and feels
And we soon have the shelf back in place,
not quiet got all the bow out,
but will pull the screws up a bit tomorrow till the bow is gone.
We have cut of the wet rotten ends of the 3x2 and measured them.
and this is were we realise that this 3x2
is just not gonna give us the straight edge we need for the door frame
so as we sat down talking I suggest using some of the valuable
(to me as cant afford to buy anymore for the next month or two)
and screw a bit of equally valuable 2x2 to it
We cutting down to length approx 10cms longer than we need.
Strawbs likes to cut wood by hand if possible,
and we clamp n screw it together
I will need to find my electric planer as it needs a bit of planing
We soon have it done
Right I cant remember why we screwing these two bits of 3x2 together, I am sure it will come back to me.
Gary Strawbridge - Big thick bit for over the door / support the roof / to prove we could...
Stephen Osborn - cheers for reminding m8 :)
its good solid wood as we brake a drill bit that wont come out!
The screws are slightly too long.
Like everything I do its always a compromise!
but the angle grinder soon takes care of that and the broken drill bit.
Often Strawbs n me seem to come to a conclusion/ rest period, know when enough is enough together.
Strawbs having fun with his safety glasses
we both happy with today's progress, He was right about not ripping the door out today,
as things took us a while longer to do than i thought and some plans just didn't work out.
Not sure if I can find the time to get down here tomorrow as its "ebay/mags4nabd main processing day,"
so i can post/ship out early monday morning.
we will have to see.
Many thanks again to Strawbs for help over the last few days its been a real laugh and got jobs done that are easier with help
