19th June 2023 - Disco Transit Green Long Wheel base and Hi Roof Conversion

Published on 20 June 2023 at 16:03

Hi Folks....................................

Today is gonna be a busy day making sure collection of my Transit from KAB Motors (who have now changed there name) and get it back here today/tomorrow goes as smooth as possible.

I have tried to contact the recovery person I used to take teh transit to Wainfleet, but it appears that he had a couple of very late and long jobs last night and has not been home long.

So I will not try to contact him again till later today, so he can catch up on his sleep.

Huge thanks to Karl Roberts who I spoke to this morning for teh update and the very protracted chat we had, it has helped to cheer me up no end.

I managed to get thru to Ken 1st try this morning and advised that I have not had the invoice, this has now been rectified and I will pay as soon as recovery is on its way.

He has NOT fitted teh roof rack, and I am not sure if there is room to safely store teh roof rack to the bed of teh recovery wagon.

If not, I will remove the fee for buying the roof rack, as I will not have time to go back to Kens to fit as I will be at hospital and then away to Scotland.

It would be a great shame as I was gonna mount the solar panels to the roof rack, so I will have to get teh split charger stuff installed and wired up.

I also have a generator, which I will be taking with me (hopefully), but that is subject to securing to doors more than they are, Bolt it to the floor and put the exhaust thru the floor.
and finally having the external and internal cameras installed and all working.

I have been in contact with Dave Jones, who is coming to sort the transit for me, I sent him the invoice and job card (Not impressed).

He will be going to his yard later today to remove several parts that could be wrong, they may just be used for testing purposes and then replaced with new ones, or once installed if issue is resolved, may just stay on the transit.

All to be discussed on the day.

We will be starting with the fuel filter and housing, as this is a very common issue, on teh MK6, and as I have a new filter here, is an easy and cheap fix. Once we remove teh filter the housing will be cleaned and carefully checked. ( but more about that once we get there)

The other common issue is the Lift Pump in teh fuel tank often packs up around teh 80 - 100.000 mark, my transit has 95000 miles on teh clock, so that could well be an issue.

The rest is just in case something not normally causes any issues.

These are areas, I would start with, if I was able and well enough to do teh work myself!

Looking thru what little bits I have left over from when we put the new engine in, I have found the old

"FORD TRANSIT INJECTOR FUEL RAIL PIPE LINE SET"

Which I have put to one side, I thought I had sold it ages ago.

Altho these pipes do not normally cause an issue, they are here, just in case.

Unfortunately could not get hold of the recovery person, we used to take teh transit to Wrangle, but luckily another recovery firm reached out to me and he will be collecting around 9am tomorrow morning.........................

I will get this invoice paid in an hour or so, ready for transit to be collected.....

so apart from replacing teh injectors and testing teh fuel, to make sure no contaminants present.

Nothing else has been done to diagnose the problem, except for you need a new engine !! or a fuel pump ???

I got silence when I said but you have teh engine running perfectly when run direct fuel !!!

and it has only got 15000 miles on it from new!!

Altho I repeatedly asked for new fuel filter and a old clean and check of fuel housing (known issue) but was not done..................

why do people do this, i could have had teh transit back over a week ago and in all probability it could be running now..................

Yet another place I have tried, started out well happy with there work, but they then shot themselves in teh foot, so will not be going back there again.

Work he would have had over winter when I come back home.................

All teh skits need rubbing back and treating for surface rust, there are 2 small areas that would have been welded at same time.

Bottom half of transit would have been re-sprayed!.

Dif n Gearbox service

Full engine service

and anything else that crops up during this year.

Not now, I will be going elsewhere.
