1st September 2018 - cbrtim Update

Published on 16 January 2023 at 01:54

Hi Folks.

I have just found a load of pics for today CBRTIM's Update.....

Unfortunately I do not have all the text, but I will fill in what I have.

As usual I have no memories of this update!..........

First of several coats, on primer. Two fold really,
1. to keep rust at bay.

2. I am using it as a guide as I TIN areas that need finishing. thi sstops me taking too much metal off.

Tinning may be old hat these days, but it's what I am used too plus I hate filler !! (Tinning does not fall out or splits...)

It is time to take CBRTIM's front end outside, to do some more work on it..

So off comes the wheel as it is not required and I need to get the girders as flat as possible.

I just nip back inside the workshop.

The Girder arms undercoat paint is dry, and I put them in the same box as the console.

and I wrap them up with loads of bubble wrap, to protect them.

Postie has just been and brought me a prezzie :) :)

The Kindle is providing loads of good tunes

I re-look at the seat pan, I have been building.

But I am not happy with it!

So I start to grind the spot welds

As I can re use these sheets of metal for small jobs :) :)

I am just glad that It is only Spot welded at this point

But even so some areas are very stubborn

That is one side off :) :)

And shortly after, I am just left with the seat pan.

To start all over again with, after I have sat n thought about it...

Time to clean the old seat parts up, so they are ready for re use later on.

I am slowly getting this brace just how I want it, time now for some tinning to finish off the welds.

Nothing to be done with the welds on the left, except some tinning, so I can smooth the weld flush

3 hours tinning and this area looks, lovely, just needs sandblasting and maybe some very fine emery cloth to finish..

This bracket edge, is ready for tinning :) :)

I am not happy with this brace so out it comes again!!

So I have cut another bit of Box section and this time it fits a lot better and is spot welded in place.

I am not sure what I am gonna do here just yet....

Both welds, just require some tinning and then moulding to shape..

More tinning, I got bored sanding it back by hand, so tried sanding wheel, but even just resting on the metal, it is too ruff..

So I will have to re-tin it all and start again

Have cleaned the welds back and now ready for some tinning

And finally today, not very successfully as either the shock mounts or the headlight mount got in the way!!
