Hi Folks.....
Lynne's replacement motherboard has finally arrived, after what seems like weeks of waiting.
So I thought I would try n cheer myself up and get her computer finally all built up and ready for her when she got home!.
Now before we start, I returned The faulty motherboard 2 weeks ago and still no update on the open eBay case, so I asked a question if there are any updates on refund yet!
So let's get on, I have decided to build the basics on my test bench (stool & cardboard box to start with) Not that I was expecting any trouble as the motherboard is only 6 months old and seller had upgraded.
Lynne's replacement motherboard, was well wrapped up.
Altho came in a box, it was a shame that it was not the original box!.
I have been using Asus Prime motherboards for over 10 years now, and never had any issues.
So was happy to get my hands on this one, about half price of a new one and only 6 months old...
In goes Lynne's CPU.
I just could not afford an I7 unfortunately.
But the I5 is no slouch, and will be more than capable of allowing Lynne to do what ever she wants on the computer..
On goes some cooling compound and the heatsink n fan.
32 gig of memory.
16 gig more than me, but then again she uses Winjows !!!
And I don't
These days my eyes need help with finding the correct pins and reading the text on motherboards.
For now, only have the power and reset buttons connected up....
Damm Lynne's Power supply only has 4 pin ATX motherboard connector
So out comes my old power supply (that is currently listed on eBay)
But will do for test purposes.
and if this motherboard will not work of the other ATX PSU I will pull this listing.
So it is time to connect up the monitor and switch it all on ......
and
Nothing, all I get is no signal! No Beeps from Speaker!
We know the monitor works.
I have replaced :-
CPU with 3 different ones.
Memory twice with new modules.
Power supply twice (altho the 2 originals & my old one all work perfectly!)
3 different mother boards
I am at a total loss!!
And it broke me - I can now add computers that I can no longer do to the ever growing list of items, I am no longer able to do.
It has to be my memory as in most of my working life & my retirement I have never had an issue that has defeated me before..
So I thought I would contact ASUS Help Desk. Got thru to a nice bloke, and I explained everything to him and that I am a retired computer/server/printer field engineer.
And he said he has seen this issue before, great I thought finally some help.
I said I had tried the on board graphics socket and HDMI with working monitors and nothing, even when I add Michael's old graphics card (which we used in Tim's Computer whilst waiting a new one) does not work!!.
But he wanted the motherboard serial number and I gave him the number on the motherboard only to be told that is not the serial number!
And it was not were it should be. So I said I have pics of everything I am using with all the details, and are compatible according to there website, I could email to them.
But the email was too big to go thru there server!.
So we done it online, when I said it will not send as it wants a serial number, he gave me some numbers to put in and away it went, with all the details and pics of items used.
as we were discussing things I broke down and just said I gotta go and put the phone down.
I went to bed in tears of frustration and not being able to remember the knowledge that was in my brain..........
