21st June 2011 - Kurgan - Suzuki GS1000E - Custom

Published on 17 January 2023 at 11:00

Hi Folks...
Right its noon and its time to crack on and try and get Kurgan ready for the road !

Found some bits o metal laying around - roughly the shape n size i need for the front seat mount

One hole was already drilled - so All I had to do was drill another one close to it

thats better - should hopefully make a solid mount with little or no movement.

now to drill a hole on the mount plate riveted to the seat

and some short 6mm bolts with locking nuts and its nice n secure

Found another bit of metal with 2 holes drilled in it - had to grind of surplus and round the edges bit its a snug fit.

And another find is this just the right length to make use of an existing hole in the rear mudguard.

All bolted together

And mounted to the mudguard.

This is a temp measure till winter arrives and I will then remove the metal bar that s now used to bolt the seat to the mudguard and drill a hole under the seat to hide the rear seat mount bolt.

Bummer, must have trod on the Choke cable as the outa plastic casing is broke - so a bit of Anne Summers tape cures that.

OOOOOPPPPPPs

The nipples come of the floor clutch - my fault was trying to seat the nipple into its home properly with pliers and it came away in my had.

Luckily I have the nipple, but no drill bits small enough or a solder kit strong enough to re solder - will leave this and look at it another day.

On goes teh choke cable

Whilst fitting the choke cable, I notice a wire of from the engine, so removed the side panel and found the other end

the panels all bolted back on

Whilst bolting on the side panel, I noticed the chain guard was rubbing against the tyre,
Bummer the front Mount is broken

So have removed, I think I may have another chain guard some were, but have left the front mount on the swing arm at the moment for a bit o protection.

SO altho a few problems have reared there ugly heads, hopefully tomorrow I may just get to take Kurgan for a test run !

Colin Russell - Lookin' good Creature, how long 'till it's ready d'ya think?

Stephen Osborn - If I can find a nipple and get it attached to the foot clutch - poss tomorrow - am trying to get it done for the N.A.B.D AGM this saturday

Colin Russell - Fingers crossed.
