21st March 2014 - The Big One - Update :)

Published on 8 September 2022 at 08:33

Hi Everyone.

Dunno what happened to yesterday, as I don't remember it at all.
Today - the depressions getting deeper n deeper and I cannot control it, but did go down the workshop.

But in reality didn't get much done as got down there - I remember sitting down - then next thing i knew its a few hours later.

But lets move on,

today, i am gonna try n sort the front brake issue out. I was never happy at all with the front brake performance last year, and it turns out the right side brake wasn't working at all!

Norton Commando - I am glad you found this out by checking things over. Instead of complete brake failure.

Off comes my faulty caliper

The replacement caliper,

not cheep at over £60.00 inc shipping.

but its in very good order and came from a later cbr1000f with less than 8000 miles on it

The pads are like new, so left them in.

and is wrapped in a bag to be looked at later one and if possible re built.

Time to start bleeding, after nearly an hour I have a brake, still not happy as it feels a bit spungy and I can just get the lever all the way to the handle bars, but it wont bleed any better.

I have put over 500mlrs of fluid thru the front brakes, so don't know if thats' how they are supposed to be, or weather the master cylinder needs rebuilding or replacing. It certainly pushes the fluid thru at a rate of knot
s and no leaks to be seen ?

Norton Commando - Is it dual disc ?

Norton Commando - Maybe the other caliper has problems. Or needs a good flushing also

Stephen Osborn - already done it - cant find anything wrong with it.
Hopefully it will get better with use - i don't know yet if any better than it was - and what i had was better than any front brake ive ever had, but would be nice not to have to ride with doubts in my mind

Tony Gardiner - Are you sure it t is a double disc master cylinder one to fit a single disc with a smaller bore would do exactly that

Stephen Osborn - As far as I can tell - its the genuine item, altho on the look out for a replacement, but they don't often come up

Stephen Osborn - I have found several but all in the bloody states and those who will ship to uk but are wanting £50.00 plus for the postage.

But knowing honda of old - they use the same parts across many bikes, just gotta find out which ones.
I have found one, the numbers match what should be fitted to my bike, as BUY IT NoW have brought..

I have tested the Alternator and its faulty - giving readings of 0.1 OHMs instead of 0.3-0.5 Ohms.
Also giving earth continuity on all leads when it Shouldn't.

Luckily I brought a spare - I have checked that and it gives the readings the Honda Workshop manual says

The rec/reg unit - unfortunately my meter don't go down lo enough to get readings so gonna have to save up and buy a better multi meter

That's it for now, am tired n going to bed
