22nd January 2023 - Disco Transit Green Long Wheel base and Hi Roof Conversion

Published on 23 January 2023 at 08:39

Hi Folks....

Transit's back home :) :)
And we can re start on the conversion once more.

Altho We hope to be going back to Kens for more work soon, I need to sell more items first as the bank account & money posts are empty....

So before we load everything back up, we will be emptying out as much as we can, so we can find the best place for the bed, that I can be getting on with whilst Lynne is at work and other jobs...

Th epic I took from yesterday did not come out, this morning we have a pick of the air vent, ok, still loads to do to finish it and before we can put the surround on it, but it makes a huge difference to natural lighting inside the van :) :)

Plus with voice activation and auto sensor so it closes automatically if it rains, gonna be a handy bit o kit, once it is complete.

Lynne n me working out were we want the mains sockets over the kitchen unit.

I paid a few quid extra for sockets with USB ports, as people who I have spoken to who live in there conversions,

say you can never have too many USB ports...

All the transit wiring is above this hole and I would like to add the trunking for the extra wiring I will be adding in the same place.

Michael has brought out the first battery and Lynne n me try it out for size :) :)

Loads of free space for fire proof packaging and ventilation.
So will ask Michael to bring

the other two out in a bit, so I can measure up to make the frames and them remove them and wire brush the bulkhead down and get it sprayed today or tomorrow.

But that is all down to how warm n dry we can get the back of the transit, so for now the oil rad is on full wack, once it is nice n warm, I will turn it back down to minimum as it will keep the back reasonably warm and air dry, and that is before we have the insulation in place.

We are discussing this area, we know what we want, but it is hard to describe, so we hope you will join us on our journey as we sort this area out this coming week.

We are hoping that the work we have have had done by Ken, will allow us to move on quite quickly for a while.

We already have 2 solar panels, but I am not sure what mounts and bits are supplied as the kitchen has a very narrow walkway, until, we

can get stuff back into the transit.
But today we will be emptying all the items we can so we can take some measurements.
For jobs I can hopefully do whilst Lynne is at work and then help me assemble and bolt into place when she gets home....

Time for a brew and a bit of warm up, as the rad has not had chance to make much of a temp change just yet.

The tree looks lovely as it always does when we get a harsh frost. But this was at 3pm !!!

Right I am back in the van, on my own at the moment as Lynne is doing other things.

I decide to clear the rear doors and stretch the curtain bungie a long as poss, as I want to use the curtain to help block some of the draughts, and stand some items in front of it temporarily.

I need to move the boards and timber from the left side of the van, but I am unable to move outside on my own!

Michael has unpacked and brought the rest of the solar batteries out for me and I put them loosely in place.

I was worried I had got my measurements wrong, but in fact I have plenty for room for strapping & fireproof padding (when I have brought them and ready to fit them).

The rest of the frame, will be built whilst Lynne is at work next week.
Subject to having enough timber.

The larger panels, I have just moved against the cooker for now.

The smaller stuff is behind a bungie start across the rear doors for now.

Now it is time to start putting the timber somewhere.

Lynne has arrived with a handful of small bungie straps.

Which gives me an idea, not only is all the long timber now out of my way, it is easy to get too and I can see how my stocks are.
I will need to go to Andrews Timber this week, as the 3 3x2 lengths are not enough to get me thru the week.

But first I need to get some work done, so I have the space to store the new timber, until I use it.

Lynne has wiped down more of the inside, ready to wire wool the paint and get the dampening & insulation started this next week.

The bathroom area is ready for dampening pads.

I have been busy removing the old wooden panels on the passenger side.
There is no wiring r plumbing this side, so once we have sorted the bed frame it will be ready to insulate and board!!

Lynne has brought Gay Gordon back out and I hoover up as much dirt as I can.
And remove the wheel arch.

Only to spot this issue!!.

As we know there was never a leak from the roof, I am hoping it is just from the missing bottom door seal.

Another item to add to my list.

Our mattress measurements and the 13mm we are trying to find !!

This in fact resonates with me, as it seems this is what my life has been like since 2012.

I can get close at times but am so far away - those 13mm have a lotto answer for!!

We spend well over an hour chancing this small measurement,

just as we think we have it sorted we realise that something gets in the way!!

But in the end, we come up with silence and agree it is a good time to call it for the day, as we are getting nowhere!.

When we get back indoors we re measure the mattress and we think we have an idea, More about that as I attempt to try it out during the week.

A lot of today was spent re-aquanting ourselves with the conversion, and working out the next stages to continue what we have done.

That should translate into us being able to get on and by Friday have got plenty of work done and be just that much closer.
