28th December 2022 - Disco Transit Green Long Wheel base and Hi Roof Conversion

Published on 28 December 2022 at 17:47

Hi Folks, after 4 days of not going into the transit and getting on with the conversion, today we decide it it time we got restarted.

We are both missing Timmy & Emma and this is a good way of taking our minds of it.
But before we start, we need to take another trip down to Andrews Timber, for some more wood and bits.

we brought 4 x 1.2mtr lengths of this and had it cut into 2 equal halves.

So now we have 8 batons for less money than buying them at the actual size we need.

So 3 sides are treated and the treated sides will fit to any metal contact.

You will see why later on.............

Again I brought 2 large sheets of 9mm ply, and had them cut to size, and we have some left over for small jobs later on :) :)

they are a bit larger than we want, but I can trim down, but adding on is not so easy!

And finally a couple more boxes of various size screws that we will be needing shortly..

Amazon has been and left me a load of goodies :) :)

24pk Steel Wool Mice | Wire Wool Mice Grade 0 Steel Wool

ready for once we have washed the sides and roof, to provide a good key for the insulation glue.

1200Pcs Self Tapping Screw M2 And M2.5 Small Screws Wood Screw Self Tapping Screw Small Screw Set Small Wood Screw With 1PCS 50mm long cross bit.

Will be needing some of these in the next few days and thru out the conversion...

rubber gromets, various sizes, almost certainly gonna need some larger ones ordering, when I know what sizes.

for all that wiring going thru metal :) :)

These will do for the internal 12 volt wiring..

Round Twin 2 Core Cable 12v 24v Thin Wall Wire (16.5 AMP Rated 1mm²) 10 Metre

Almost certainly will not be enough, but it's a start for now.

Heat Shrink Wire Connector Butt Terminals Kit, 200PCS Crimp Connectors Waterproof Insulated Electrical Terminals Marine Automotive Cable Electrapick (3 Colors - 3 Sizes)

I am hoping this will be enough, but just in case.........

And finally today, the crimper's :) :)

I just hope my hands are strong enough to use them!!

After our shopping spree today at Andrews Timber. We have even less room to work in!

So first job, is to have a bloody good tidy up!!

it's all a bit of a mess at the moment! but hopefully after a tidy up, we can start using some of the timber we have brought...

But this is the only work area we have, and it is not too large as it is, so keeping it clear is a must!

What a mess!

But there is not a lot I can do about it, except keep moving it all about, until I finally get around to using it!....

Which fingers crossed, will not be long now.

You may remember the last time I was in the transit, I spent a hour or so, trying to remove the bloody FORD clips that hold this in place!

Today I gave up and attached them with some cutters!

And even then they did not want to be cut easily !!!

But eventually I won and the cover is now on the cooker.

It will go in the house one day soon, to be thoroughly scrubbed down and once nice n clean, will have some Shake n VAC scrubbed in to it and then finally hoovered, so it will be ready to go back on, once all the work behind it is completed :) :)

Now I can really see what;s inside here, and just what work there is to be done.

But before I do anything in here, I need to get the leak fixed!.

My min interest today is this inverter, that was in the transit when I brought it and it's specs...

But it is screwed down tight, but I switch it on and it is live :) :)

I remove the screws, but I cannot find any more information about it ! :( :(

But before I do anything else, I need to trace the wires back and disconnect them, so I can pull the unit out..

Meanwhile, Lynne has been very busy sweeping the transit floor, so we can start to get the damaged floor panels we have removed.
And the nice new board installed.

But first we need to shape the new board to fit, I cheat and use the old floor board to get the shapes we need.

The old board will be going down to the fire drum, to join the rest of the rubbish we have to burn :) :)

Finally we have the new floorboard laid down, we have one more bit to trim and then it is ready to be screwed down.

But we will not be doing that until, we have the other board, trimmed and laid down.

Plus, as we are covering up the step, to make a little storage place for most of my tools, we will need to build frame and supports as well.

But we will start with moving all the timber out of the way and lifting what is next :) :)

Then build the frame for the step and the bonus job, will be if we get the last floor board laid and them all screwed down :) :)
