28th february 2014 - Various Hobbies - Workshop Update

Published on 17 September 2022 at 17:36

Today is not a good day,

woke up in a fowl angry mood and soon went downhill from there,

When I am like this its best I am on my own as likely to lash out big time at smallest wrong comment.

Sorry for the size n quality of some of these pics, They have been recovered from 3 faulty hard drives and the best pics So far recovered.

These were the originals, so I am unlikely to find any better size or quality, but there are Zip Filed folders, that I hope can be recovered with better quality pics.
We will just have to wait n see......

Michael Osborn, came down for a bit to give me a hand to move the wood and to take stuff that has bids on Ebay,

up to the Computer room for me.

Where a session with the hand saw took a bit of the edge of my temper

Having Michael with me,

allowed us to pile the 2x2,

nicely were I was building the shelving

But for now its out of my way...

This chop saw has a bid on it -

so to computer room it goes

The welder has a few bids on it -

so to computer room it goes,
After as my health has deteriorated, the fumes and shaking hands make it impossible to use safely.

The old Ammo Box has a bid on it -

so to computer room it goes

These forks, no bids yet.

but a few questions to answer,

so to computer room they go.

welding Mask has a bid on it

so to computer room it goes

This box of bits go to the computer room.

To have there pics taken and listed.

These lathe bits have some bids on it.

so to computer room they go

Norton Commando - I am surprised your not keeping these for your new lathe.

Stephen Osborn - I have already got the ones were you replace the tips and prefer them, to these.

Bit of a mess,

but not yet found an empty gallon can for this old engine oil

box of stuff I brought back from Maz's waiting for me to sort out

I put the boxes back on top of the bench,

I was hoping to have most of this lot in there new homes this week,

but like all best plans, It has not happened

Norton Commando - Your a busy man. You will get it taken care of I am sure. You always do.

this lot can stay here for now

I have had to move The Big One back to make some room to work in

Norton Commando - I am doing the same with my 07' Triumph Thruxton 900. I just ordered a new front tire and tube today. Plus I need to get her washed and polished up. If the outside temp will rise above 0c. SPRING is on the way.

Stephen Osborn - would like to strip it down to bare frame and put it back together - cant afford paint job on frame or anything, just too many niggling issues last year - if i strip it at least i will know what i ride is safe n solid

I decide, instead of keep moving the 2x2 batons about,

I had better use them,

so this is the last bit of the roof,

waiting to be lined, insulated and batons to fix the hardboard to to be done

I have had enough of using the hand saw so I pull out the new chop saw I brought earlier today...

Anne McGarrie - Performance Power, good old B&Q lol

Even read the manual, and its soon set up ready to use

Norton Commando - What a beauty. All shineny and new.

Stephen Osborn - Not anymore its covered in sawdust already

Right gotta move these rag tubs

the first roof baton and 1st time i use the new chop saw is to cut this joint

with some genital persuasion with rubber mallet its soon in place and screwed in

next is this end, the roof board will fit in between two bits of 2x2 so there will be an overlap,

which I will look at when done and everything cut back,

to see if I can think of a way that will not only be strong but look ok as well

Norton Commando - I have faith you will have this looking great/ You always do.

The single roof truss gets another bit of 2x2 screwed to it ,

to bring it level with the ends

Norton Commando - Fantastict.

two 2x2 off cuts screwed together and slightly shaped fit across were two roof panels join

same here, using my last two angle brackets

this roof truss i Have installed is 4 foot from the side wall

I double it up which leaves me a nice channel to run wiring and fit ceiling sockets

I pull out my fireproof polystyrene off cuts box

and cram in 100mm thickness of polystyrene inside the roof liner and fold the excess roof liner over, to hold it all in place

this side next

and do the same here.

Looks a bit of a mess, but in small areas it uses up the off cuts and helps to save money, and of course its all covered up..

the box now a bit emptier, hopefully will use this lot up under the bench next week

Mark Downer - A bit lighter?? It's bloody polystyrene mate lol

Stephen Osborn - I know, I was tired !

Right, I have come to a natural stop on the roof for now, as I will need a 8x6 foot 50mm thick polystyrene sheet,

but not got room for it yet, I cant be arsed to move stuff out from under the bench, so decide to do a bit more on this small bench

On goes the 4 way gang and wire fed thru the frame

not got proper cable holders,

so use 2" nails bent over with mole grips

and do the same up this wall

I give the top shelf a good coat of paint

and start to cut up some 3x2 timber that I find outside the workshop, for the bench top

The woods still wet inside,

but with heater on in here whilst i am working it will soon dry out

and the tops soon done, I

cant plane it back as its got loads of staples in it,

I have given the new bench a good coat of paint

And part of the side gets its first coat

and part of the front as well

this roof support gets its final coat

as does this back shelf support.

That's it for today, i feel I have just had enough, so probably gonna be tea bath and early nite - ready to get back down the workshop tomorrow.

I was hoping the workshop, would be finished and the end of Feb, as I had planed on starting work on The Big One for most of March, but its just not happened, so with the other jobs piling up on me am getting further behind, instead of getting caught up or even ahead of myself for once
