28th January 2023 - Disco Transit Green Long Wheel base and Hi Roof Conversion8

Published on 29 January 2023 at 10:18

Hi Folks.
After a very disappointing couple of days!

I can only hope today goes far better...
I have Lynne with me today, and that usually means we have a good day, with plenty of the work done, that I would struggle with on my own, and have some fun along the way.

It looks as if eBay Sales today is gonna be good with loads of small items having bids on them, a few bigger items, but no high price items just yet.
As usual I will start to process these during our breaks, and if not to tired ater we finish for teh day.

First job today, is to have a tidy up, as it is not working as it is!.

All this timber is in my way!
And has to be moved

This is what i mean, by not working as well as it should!

So I put the circular saw in the bathroom for now.

And fold up the workmate, which leaves this nice bit of space.
But I want more....

A good tidy up and move around of stuff
and we have the makings of what I am after.

But this corner is a real mess, it has become a dumping ground.
For the boxes, there is not much I can do with them until I get more of the hidden work done on the conversion.
The rest just needs going thru and tidying up and putting away properly.

Lynne has arrived, and she has cleaned the kitchen area, and we now have the circular saw installed on it.
This should be ok for 99% of the wood we will be cutting with it.

We have the floor area nice n tidy now,

we have put the circular saw box (with small bits we are gonna be using soon) into the kitchen cupboard. for now

The bathroom area, is in typical for me a messy area, as I have to have everything around me that I will need, as it is such hard work to get up off the floor.

We are gonna Attempt to get this battery storage area frame work done today.!

So we cut the short lengths to size and just sit them under the rear gross member for now.
At this stage we are just making sure we have enough clearance, to remove the battery's if we have to.

And to make sure we have the space between the up rights. to move the battery's and lift then out easily.

Be-leave it or not this is actually van level!

The offset is caused by the road camber, were we are parked.
This often cause me loads of confusion when I am trying to build things, that need to be level, so I leave the spirit level here as often as I can just to remind me!!

hole drill for rivetnut, but I only have a 8mm drill handy.
So Lynne goes into the workshop to find a 9mm & 10mm drill bit and some pliers

Meanwhile I get on with screwing in the middle upright.

And soon the bathroom end upright is screwed into place.

Time for the battery area to be cleaned out

and the last 2 battery's installed and moved around till they sit were I want them 2.

Lynne is back with some old dill bit's n Pliers.

So I can now remove the shipping bungs from the batteries.
I cut some 6mm threaded bars and after installing the rivet-nut, I bolt it all up tight.

The 6.5mm drill hole is  little tight for the threaded bar, so the hole is widened to 7mm which works much better.

I now drill the other 7mm holes.
Unfortunately the battery went flat in the drill, so we had to stop here, as wee need to drill more holes, to finish this part of today's work.

Already it is gone 5pm ! and it does not look like we are gonna get this area finished :( :(

But we decide to carry on whilst we are waiting for tea to arrive.
And start on the front of the battery box.

we have been discussing this area and how to make secure but easily accessible at the same time.
And I think we have come up with a plan, Just have to await a few items to arrive.

All dry built at the moment, but diff ideas are being thought about by both of us.
It is gonna mean some changes to what we have done tho,

So we decide to call it a night here, as I have to think things thru,

Lynne has learned how to use the circular saw properly. Not the way I use it, and hopefully, she will be cutting more timber using it over the next few weeks and gain confidence in here ability.

Today has been a real downer on me, I have tried to stay positive for Lynne, but am dissapointed at just how little progress has been made.

I am now a good month behind schedule and the March date for leaving is looking less n less possible.

We have the water tanks and fitting kit here, but cannot afford to get it installed.

The roof rack is nearly ready - but do not have the funds to have it all completed and fitted.
inside the transit is so far behind it is depressing and frustrating.

We still need money for a few things, but also the cheaper things like timber & bits, but funds are now so low, that once the current lot has been used the conversion will come to a stop.

Ebay sales this weekend is looking good, but mainly all small items at small prices. I also need to find time to sort n get more items listed.
