29th December 2022 - Disco Transit Green Long Wheel base and Hi Roof Conversion

Published on 30 December 2022 at 11:45

Hi Folks.

Today, for the first time, I have made a list jobs to be done in the transit today.
I just hope it works, and if we do not achieve it, that it does not set me back to hard.

Let's see how we get on..................

1. Measure Windscreen - so I can find fold-able solar panel.
2. Trace the inverter wires and disconnect them.

3. Move the wood.
4. Lift last piece of damaged floor.
5. Make frame to cover the step (will become toolbox storage)
6. Measure and cut the last floorboard (remembering to add extra at sliding door, to cover step.)

BONUS JOB.

Lay and screw into place both new floor boards !!

It would be nice to remove some if not all of these of my screen today :) :)
Altho some may re appear as I start to run out of materials....

Found this extension lead last night and thought it would make a good donor for wiring up the lights I brought for the green shed a few years ago and never got around to fitting!.

So with Lynne's help off comes the socket, and we wire up the light :) :)

All ready for me to hang up for now.

I have found some wire and have the front edge loosely tied in place.

soon followed about 2/3rds the way down the light, there is no room to go towards the back of the light, so this will have to do for now.

I re tighten each wire in turn, until it's a good as I can get it for now, maybe when Lynne get's up and if she wants to come n help me we can get it even more secure.
As I do not really want to keep taking it down when I have to drive.

Bingo we have some decent light :) :)

Now I can see better, there is no reason for me to be held up, as I was with the disco light, especially when there was both of us in the back and the door shut.

Before I can do anymore, I need to move all this timber, as it is on the bit of wood., I am removing & and I expect there to be some screws hidden..
Luckily I just slide most of it backwards :) :)

After a bit of a breather, I remove the screws that I can find from this broken floor board!.

Damm there are some hidden screws, that I did not see, even after sweeping the board!

But they are soon removed...

Its all out, there is one screw, that refused to come loose!

I will cut it back later on.....

After a good sweeping a few times and I have most of the old rubbish gone into the rubbish bin :) :)

I do spot a potential weekend, altho very remote!

The gaps between the ridges were the floor panels will join together, is gonna be a natural moving point and could cause the floor to become damaged.
As I said it is unlikely, But I will use some off

cuts from the old floor boards and slide under the existing boards and about 9" under the replacement boards :) :)

As this is the main walkway, I would feel better if it is done this way..
It's not as if it will cost ma anything, other than a bit of time...

Time for a rest, as I am struggling to breath this morning, but I am hoping to get back into teh transit in a little while....

The one screw, that refused to come out, after being attacked by my junior saw, has come loose and unscrewed out :) :)

I will be marking these holes to reuse them, with slightly larger self taping screws.

This hole has been filled in using a ford "fir tree trim panel fastener retainer clip"

It is a very snug fit, but I will get some sealant next time I go into town.

I will give the area a good wash down and the fastener and seal the 2 together, so that no water can get in..

Time to start measuring the step, so that I can get the frame made.

I have decided to go overkill on the size wood, I am gonna use, but as its the main entrance way, it needs to be solid and take anything I throw at it.

Amazon delivery has been, whilst we were in the transit :) :)

he has left us with :-
6 Tins 500ml spray Contact adhesive Super Strong carpet tiles underlay spray glue

So now have enough spray adhesive, for when it comes time to start insulating the bathroom room :) :)

He also left us with :-

All Purpose Automotive Spray Paint 250ml Can White Gloss Finish Aerosol Metal Interior Exterior Fast Dry Excellent Coverage Adhesion - White Gloss - 12 Pack

Probably way to much, as only planing on spraying the bulk head, to brighten the back up a bit...

Mind you still gotta find the star bits to remove the bolts. They almost certainly in the workshop

He also left us with :-

Corner Clamps for Woodworking Set of 4, 90 Degree Right Angle Clamp for Wood Welding Jig Picture Photo Frame, Adjustable DIY Hand Carpenter Tool Miter Corner Clamp.jpg

Just in time as will need them in a bit either today or tomorrow

They not expensive or very strong, but good enough for what I want them to do!

We have measured up the step, by the sliding door!.

We are gonna do away with it, as it is a hazzard for me to use.

The space underneath will house some of my tools. (unfortunately the socket set in 1" to wide!!!)

But before we will be doing any cutting, we will be measuring it several times, until we are happy, as we do not have wood to waste..

we are using a good solid piece of the floor panel and cutting them down, to make some floor strengtheners, were the 2 floor boards meet.

We will get most of the slats we need, before we get to the rotten and damp part, which will end up down the fire bin tomorrow.

Yep all teh timber will be had sawn, this is to help me gain some strength back in my arms n shoulders.

The floor slats are coming along nicely

and nearly done, they will not be screwed down as the floor will keep them in place :) :)

Lynne takes over when my arms n shoulders cry no more!

Today we are working together just like we used to before all the shit started and I am really enjoying it...

We had to start on another old bit of flooring, to finish off.

The rectangle at the end, still needs a bit of trimming and will be screwed in place

we have measured, marked, measured again until we are both happy, and we cut the 1st upright for the step.

Yes would be quicker if we used a circular saw, but this conversion is all about us working together again as if all goes to plan we will both get many years away in it...

we double check the cut upright and we are well happy,

Yes the gap is supposed to be there!

We have cut the 1st of the lengths of wood, and we just lay them all together in the floor well and they fit just perfect.

I am almost having hand cramps all the time, so we head back indoors for a brew and a rest.
