2nd January 2023 - Disco Transit Green Long Wheel base and Hi Roof Conversion

Published on 3 January 2023 at 01:52

Hi Folks.

Not in a good place, but I have tried everything else and today they are not working!.

So I am gonna go n potter about in the back of the transit!, not something I would normally do as I usually make too many mistakes and loose the plot even more.

But I feel as if I have to do something!.

But before I go out to the van, let's open today's post, as hopefully some items have arrived that may help me out...

The Gorilla clue has arrived, and I just in time to be used a lot :) :) (in the next few days or so)

Some quick release battery terminals have arrived, these are for the solar batteries.

Which I will need to start buying very soon.

This was on offer with the quick release terminals, for £1.99, so I have brought them for when I need to be able to focus doing small things and when my hands will not stop shaking..

I am out in the transit, on my own, but relatively calm and that is all that matters to me........

so I am sat on the portaloo and my mind says lets start cutting the last floorboards.

So I pull the floor board towards me and get the saw out n start cutting..

I have kept as close to the lines as I good, as I know I may have to cut n trim in places to fit the transit and the existing boards..

I lay the board down as best I can, and measure the bulkhead parts, that I need to cut off from the floor board.

Again I keep close to the line, so That I can just trim the areas I need to and not leave large gaps.

I re lay the board down!

Its looking pretty good, altho some more trimming is required.

I check the other side to see how much I will need to cut off the other end to get it to mate up to the existing floorboards.

Not much :) :)

So I measure up and cut out another 2cm from the bulk head end of the floor board.

Now I am getting some where, but I soon realise I am gonna nee some help!.

So I call Lynne and whilst waiting, I get on with trimming small areas from the floor board.

Something is stopping the floor board from sliding all the way in !

It takes us a while to realise the final part next to the cut out is butting the side of the

transit and stopping the floor from sitting as we want....

So I do some trimming there and at the bulkhead of the board, as If I take from one side, I need to take from the other to allow the board to slide into place .....

We lay down the first piece of new flooring and offer up the larger piece and we are almost there.

Just about mm's are stopping the whole lot sitting into place nice n squarely!.

So it takes us several attempts at trimming small areas, but finally we have the 2 new boards butted up to the original boards squarely...

We still have some small areas to trim, for a better fit...

and finally we have the floor boards sitting comfortably, Nice n snug against the original boards, but with some expansion room of couple of mm's for heat expansion...

Time for a cuppa and bring out the screwdiver/drill battery as it is fully charged up now....

We are back out on the transit, and I am sat outside on the steps drilling and screwing the floorboards in place :) :)
I have to grind the end of some of the screws, but that's a job for another day.

Meanwhile, Lynne is busy with the sander, sanding the bulkhead down ready for primer, hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday.

It's down to the weather, after we have been down town in the morning we will hook up the mains to the transit and turn up the rad full, and give it an hour, to really get the back warm, ready for us to get the primer on.

I am inside now, the door is closed and we can feel the back warm up :) :)

So I start to screw the new floorboards in place.

Lynne is doing a cracking job, sanding the bulkhead down, I cant wait to see what see what it will look like sprayed white, we are hoping it will really lift the gloom & the darkness...
As well as making the bulkhead look a light nicer

Dammm..............................

I broke all the really small drill bits, so had to move up the sizes a bit.

Luckily I have some thicker self taping screws handy :) :)

But the floorboards are pulling down nice an evenly

Time to wriggle slowly round and get the new floorboard screwed down level with the old floor.

If I can find somewhere to store the wood, I may well scrub the old floorboards and protect them as well..

But then again, as its all being covered over, I am not sure about doing it yet..

Finally all the screws are in place, the floor boards are level with each other and going nowhere.

Time to call it a night and grab some tea as we are hungry...............

Next 2 weeks jobs, to be added to the few we have not finished from last week.
