Hi Folks.
After sleeping in, gonna be a shorter day working in the transit today!.
But I still hope to get something done.
I suppose yesterdays to do list was a bit excessive, but then again, we did not know what we were gonna do as the prepwork, had not been figured out totally !
Yesterday's Worksheet!
"1. Measure Windscreen - so I can find fold-able solar panel.
2. Trace the inverter wires and disconnect them.
3. Move the wood.
4. Lift last piece of damaged floor.
5. Make frame to cover the step (will become toolbox storage)
6. Measure and cut the last floorboard (remembering to add extra at sliding door, to cover step.)
BONUS JOB.
Lay and screw into place both new floor boards !!"
Of the jobs listed above, we managed to complete !
3. Move the wood.
4. Lift last piece of damaged floor.
Jobs Started!
5. Make frame to cover the step (will become toolbox storage)
It might not look like much was done, but when you add in the planning and several measurements time, we are well happy with the results.
Especially as we only have 1 chance to get it done right, as money is very tight now, and what we have in the bank and coming in from SALES, we will need for the batteries and Solar parts (that we do not already have).
So let us see how today goes, No new worksheet today,as there is more than enough to be getting on with from yesterdays jobs not completed or done................
we now have the window screen measurements.
Ok we cheated, but easier this way :) :)
Now I can research on fold-able window screen solar kit.
and once I have settled on what is hopefully the right one, I will order it.
I needed something level, so that I could safely saw on and get straight cuts.
So I turned the radiator and moved it close to me.
And opens the kitchen cabinet draw, and hey presto, I had something that was almost level to work on :) :)
All my workstations are broken and there is not enough room for one and be able to work safely anyway!.
I need 3 more of these end blocks :) :)
They will need a little bit of sanding, and they are pretty cut straight - now ready to be used, when I have the rest of the timber cut.
Now these lengths are purposely made out of thinner wood, as I want the maximum tool storage space :) :)
The down side is I will have to add 1 or 2 strengtheners in-between.
To make sure it will take me walking on top of the final finished panelling.
The 4 batons I need are cut to length, the wood is treated, but not along the cut line were we cut the baton's in half length ways....
So the sawn end will always be away from the metal and any possible places were the wood can get wet.
All 4 are now cut and waiting to be given a light sanding.
Ok these £9.99 corner braces are for 45 degree cut timber, but me being the awkward cuss that I am, are but jointing the pieces of wood together.
with an off cut, I mange to get the brace to hold the timber as I want and its all nice n square :) :)
Everything joins together nicely :) :)
When I nip in for a cuppa, I will bring the Gorilla glue out.
I drill a pilot hole.
and using a larger drill bevel the end so the screw head is sunken out of the way.
Lynne has just come out as I was just getting out of the van, so we go for a cuppa and we will be back out shortly....
We are back in the transit, Lynne has gone back indoors, to go thru the airing cupboard to see if she can find any screws suitable for what we want them for now.
I brought the gorilla clue out, only to find the top of the glue has set solid, so I get a small drill out and drill into the bottle!.
It is sold all the way down !
so much for using resealable caps ????
In the bin it goes.
We do not have any more wood glue, so will just have to make do with screws for this current project!...
So I carry on, with some old screws that have been saved from when we removed panels and knackered floor boards.
The clamps are well handy as I am still on my own for now.
I start the 2nd project, which is exactly the same as the first project...
All clamped up ready for holes to be drilled and screwed in place, plus I am using some angle brackets for extra strength..
In goes the long side screw, I have countersunk the hole about 1/4 the way down the timber,
As the screws were about 1" shorter than I would have liked.
Now ready to screw the bracket in place, with any screws I can find in the van...
Time to get the 2nd baton lined up ready to screw into place....
I am trying to do both ends at once to see if it speeds things up a little bit :) :)
That's project 1 - all done :) :)
And ready to be put in the old step well, once we have the other one all done :) :)
We still have to add support blocks, but will measure them once we have this lot all in place :) :)
Lynne has come back, she has found a few screws that will do what I want, but the cat has been sick in the airing cupboard, so we decide to go n have a brew :) :)
We are back in the transit again, where has the day gone ??
So this will almost certainly be the last session today...
I put the 2 projects, that will merge into 1 project hopefully tomorrow, if all goes to plan.
But for now they fit just as we hoped they would....
Time to measure up for the strengthening blocks.
I know these will vary a little bit as the step itself is uneven!
Cutting the blocks from the 1st piece of timber I started to cut yesterday :) :)
As I am on my own for a bit, the radiator becomes useful once again :) :)
The 4 blocks are cut, and yes they are meant to be uneven as that is how the foot-well is...
I am working out the measurements and where they will go.
After much thought, I decide to only 2 of the strengthening blocks..
measure n marked were the strengthening blocks are gonna go :) :)
and using 2 of the clamps to hold everything in place, whilst I drill and screw together
Project 1 is finished :) :)
yes the spacing is meant to be smaller than the out side spaces.
As that is were I walk the most when getting on or out of the transit.
That completes project 2 :) :)
they may have taken all day for me to do, but am well happy.
Into the step they go, am well happy with the results.
Yes they sit proud of the step, they are actually level with the raised parts the floorboards sit on...
Was hoping to be ready to measure and cut the floorboard today, but it was not meant to be.
I am just happy to be pottering along, and slowly getting things done in there own time.
We have tried to unscrew the board that sits in the step well, but the screws refuse to move, so tomorrow I will drill the heads of the screws and lift the board that way.
I will try n get the screws out as well, so I can use the same holes when we screw it all back together.
We will be going into the workshop tomorrow at some stage as I wand some large washers, so we can screw to frameworks to the floor board, the washers will just spread the load, and stop the screws trying to pull thru.
