30th January 2023 - Disco Transit Green Long Wheel base and Hi Roof Conversion

Hi Folks.

After a few real frustrating days, I hope today goes much better.

As usual my day starts with a clean up of the area I plan to be working in...

This side I am only using 3 ply. I  would like to use 9mm ply, but I just cannot afford it at this stage!

The smaller piece of 9mm ply will be glued and screwed in place, leaving a small gap for air to flow.

I measure and cut the lengths for the bathroom battery cover.

This one is gonna have to be different from the other cover, as there will be no room to hinge outwards and remove!!

Altho at the upper end of what these clamps were designed for, they still help me keep things in place, whilst I line the wood up and drill the holes and screw the bits together.
Again at this stage not using any glue, until I am 100% sure it all works and will never want to come apart again.

That is the front of the battery box frame put together.

Measuring and test to make sure the spacing blocks are correct.

Ready to be screwed together and make sure my measurements are correct.....

Not sure at this stage whether to add a rear member, as I hope the 9mm boarding will be more than strong enough.

I have just had a huge tidy up, the remaining tools n bits you see are so when I am down on me arse on the foam mats, I can just reach everything.

When I have to get up, I try and make sure I do as many jobs as I can, before sitting back down again.

Toilets is in its place.
Now I was gonna build a framework around it leaving space at the front (behind a door) to slide out the dirty tray!.
But what I did not take into account, or even look at was how the toilet comes apart!!
So now I need to think things thru as what I do affects storage, were the sink goes and how easy it will be to empty the toilet........................

Time for a brew and get a few more eBAy items SOLD processed whilst I think...

Right I am back outside, and it has warmed up nicely and the ovens backing hot, so off goes the rad and I leave the sliding door open..

Now that is good timing as a plan comes to mind, and before it disappears I scribble down what I remember.
Unfortunately things do not seem to stay in my memory for long and before i could add any details to the crap sketches its all gone again :( :(

But there seems to be enough for me to expand on and gradually I just let things flow without thinking about them at all.
And I soon have some measurements :) :)

Needs a good wash! but it has been stood in the shed since Covid started.
And will probably get dirtier, before I finish with it.

The brown lever at the top, is what separates the toilet into 2 parts

and it has a semi sort of hinge at the front

and away the top part goes.
Leaving just the part that needs to be emptied.

I was hoping the chemicals were gonna go this side,

but there is not enough width, so they will have to go the other side and this will become spare toilet rolls home.
But maybe some other smaller containers as well.

Starting to mark out were the baton will go, remembering to leave 10mm this side, so we can slide out the battery cover..

I use 1 x 7ft length of battening and cut it to various lengths, so I can play around and see what happens..

Slow but surely the dry build on this side begins.
(dry build for the non motorcyclists/engineers reading this)

is where you start to assemble the bits together and see if what you are planning actually works, as this is wood, I cannot tack it in place with spot welds, so things are very loose and when heavy lorry goes past it all falls down !

I use a 9mm ply board off-cut to make sure I have left enough room

The battery cover have left 10cm, so the cover will slide in and out easily.

The same goes for the base of the toilet.

I have cut 6 x 16cm batons plus 1 for spare.

And I dry build were these 4 batons will go.

I have not finalised the back yet and nothing is springing to mind.

OOOOps all fall down after a lorry went past!.

Another enforced break again, to wash n change clothes, have a drink, process a ebay sale or 2 and then back out, to see if I can get a lot more bone in the Bathroom.

Must remember the mains drill and the new sink (just in case I am ready to find a spot for it when Lynne comes home).

Today has been a far better day all round, still not in a good place, but the weight has been lifted somewhat from my shoulders.

I am happy with today's progress, I can see I am gonna try n get some help and start to cut up the 9mm ply board to cover all the framework I have been doing.

I know that it is beyond my capabilities these days, So if anyone close by is good with 3 & 9mm sheets and accurate with cutting them, please give me a shout.

If all goes to plane, I hope to have the toilet surround storage framework done tomorrow evening, and I can then play around with the sink, to work out the best place for it.

Also maybe start the plumbing and electrics in place ready would be a real bonus..

I have spoken to Ken today and funds permitting, next week will see the roof rack in place and the bonus job will to be have the water tanks in place, and part of the plumbing.

The exceptional bonus will be to have the diesel heaters holes all cut and possibly mounted in place, but that depends on progress in the kitchen area.

Very tired, still and in pain, so another early nite for me.
See ya all in the morning................
