Hi Folks, after the last minute change of what I was gonna do yesterday, due to my mental health, Today see's me back int the transit, to try n get it ready for next Wednesday!.
Plastic Acrylic Perspex® Sheet Clear Colour Fluorescent Frosted Mirrored Tinted.
Bathroom door glass has arrived !.
once I have the Bathroom/kitchen wall frame built, we will see if it is worth while adding some of this to the top, to allow more light into the toilet or just leave it plain wood.
Right let's get outside for today's work and see just how much/little I can get done...
Session 1.
It is late morning as postie did not arrive till around 11.15am.
But that is fine, as it allowed me to get on with some house work and some other bits :) :)
But the rest of the day (except rest periods & change of towels n trousers as am not in control of water works again :( :( )
So it is gonna be one of those days I think!
I have cut the door side of the bathroom upright, from the measurements Lynne n me did last night.
Typically it was still too long, but I soon kept shaving it down a little at a time and now, has to be tapped into place :) :)
I am still trying to get this upright square, not far away, but bloody annoying!
I wish Lynne or someone was here, as trying to hold the upright and tapping it level and holding the square with 1 pair of hands is not funny..............
But eventually I get the upright level and it is 1mm longer than it needs to be, but that is planed..
I think someone has walked on the roof, as it pools water up there and covers the seams that are now leaking, so the plan is.
In the middle of the van or near as, all the uprights will be 1mm taller, so they lift the centre of the roof very slightly.
But not enough to stretch and make the seals leak, when they are all repaired.
The up right is screwed to the bottom rail by 2 x 5mm x 75mm general purpose wood screws.
Which I buy by the box as loads cheaper that way.
After checking the corner is square, I add 1 triangle brace bracket, just to give the joint that much more strength.
As the frame is so large and tight to fit, I have to open the sliding door to make moving easier..
The frame is back between the lines we have drawn and fits pretty good.
I measure up the top frame it takes me 2 attempts to get a nice tight fit and still be square..
As I was marking up the knot was in the middle, so turned the wood around so I would miss it :) :)
and it is time to start clamping the top corners together.
Yes I know the top rail is not flush ?
That is because the roof has ridges and curves and I do not feel confident enough to try n sand the top rail to fit the roof..
and the other end is double braced up as well.
I check to make sure the corners are square and the top rail is level and just touches the roof in places.
One day I may buy a proper counter sink, but a larger drill does just as well...
and both ends are screwed together.
and the basic frame is put back, where it will live.
I still have worked to do, but i have just had an accident to big to ignore, so it is time for a break and wash down a fresh towel n trousers.
and have a bit of a break, doing some other small jobs, sorting and listing!
Back in 20...........
it's 45 mins later, got held up answering lots of eBay questions...
I have cut the centre upright, altho it will actually be slightly of centre by a couple of cm's due to the proposed sink mounts & locations..
But once it is all finished and panelled in no one will ever know :) :)
But it is just to long, as this is as far as it will go!
measuring just were I want this centre upright to go..
and as these timbers will be covered up makes a handy working out page :) :)
Time to trim the centre upright, I have measured it several times now, and weirdly I got the same measurement each time!
I have to remove the frame so I can screw it all together and as I will be screwing behind the cross member, the floor n ceiling gets in the way!.
So I open the door, to make moving the frame on it's side and I can drill the pilot hole, use a larger drill as a bevel.
And finally screw the centre upright in place.
The frame is now very rigid and according tho the set square is square....
it takes a bit of doing, but finally have the wall frame in place, within mm's of it's permanent home..
Again really missing Lynne and her hands, so I just have to trying and eventually it sits where I want it too.
Still got all the cross members to measure place and cut, but this will have to wait for a short while.
I was gonna use self tappers, but after sitting and thinking about it I decide to head down the workshop..
It is a little chilly in here, and I very nearly staid, but today I am working on the transit.
But I will get into the workshop, have a bit of a tidy up and maybe even do some work on TIMOTHY.
As the transit will be away for a few days next week, I am hoping to be well enough to come down here and get on with something.
I wanted to use 8mm threaded bar, but I do not have any ? I suppose it never came back with Timothy.
But i find some 6mm spring washers & nuts, which will do what I want to keep me going today.
I find a long length on 6mm threaded bar, it is somewhat bent and misshapen, but it will do.
Some assorted washers and a full box of 70mm screws !.
Yesterday I ordered 2 boxes of these as I had run out, Typical and they will be here later today.
But they will be used if not for teh conversion then somewhere else.
I runs a few nuts up n down the threaded bar, too clean the threads out.
And then measure and cut 2 lengths at 13cm.
I have run out of 6mm penny washers, but I mix n match what I have.
It will all be hidden so it does not matter too much.
I drill the hole, starting off with a pilot drill and then working my way up to 6.5mm.
Best buy the screw driver drill :) :) nice n light and even with my bad hands and struggling to lift stuff or keep it steady, it is a real boon.
I shove the threaded bar n washers bar threw the timber and the transit frame,
And the washer is too large, so I use the cutting disk on the grinder.
That is better and I do the nuts up, just until the frame starts to bend.
I am hoping the spring washers will hold it all nice n tight..
Lynne's just arrived home and she is happy with work done, and we discuss tomorrows jobs, and we just slide an off cut between the frame and the timber.
It will need some cutting but I am hoping it will slide in and wedge into place, ready for me to drill the holes and mount in place.
As my moby battery is very nearly dead and the screw driver/drill battery is flat and the little screw driver is also flat, I decide to call it a night.
If I get up early enough tomorrow morning, I will take Lynne into School and head round to town n county for some :-
3mtr of 8mm threaded bar
load of nuts n washers/spring washers
Some large penny washers.
And I expect most of tomorrow, will be securing the wall frame into place.
Amazon called just as we were waiting for the kettle to boil.
New tape measure, as I keep forgetting to bring the one I have in at night so I can measure cables n items for listing.
and 2 x 100 5mm x 70mm boxes of screws :) :)
