Hi Folks....

Right today's all about getting the carbs nice n clean and hopefully back on Kurgan and running on all 4 cylinders.

Stephen Osborn - 1st thing i did once I'd brought the donor bike was to remove carbs and drain fuel - but don't know how long it had been stood before I brought it

Graham Flinn - yours dont look as bad as some ive done.

Graham Krueger - Definately seen worse.

Stephen Osborn - i have found in the past that once the brass has gone soft that they will work ok for a while then the problems just start again.
these floats were straightened, when i checked them a few months back and they were in the condition in the pics before i removed them

So the first job is to try and remove the float bowl pins.

I had looked at these yesterday and they were solid.

a small drift and small hammer and they still wouldn't move,

so I soaked them in vinegar overnite and hoped for the best.

Finally got the first one out are 20 mins of gentle tapping with drift & hammer - this one is scored to hell and will need replacing.

And as you can see the floats not in much better condition.

Past experience has told me that you can re straighten them out.

But it is not always successful.

So gonna need to be replaced.

this is the pin from No2 carb.

it was a real sod and bent whilst trying to get it out!

and yet another bent float.
no wonder Kurgan Refused to run right!

No2 - some muck in the body but nothing serious

No3 - is not so bad either

No4 - not too bad either.

Just come up to phone local bike dealer up for cost of parts.

the float bowl pins are £3.40 each

The Floats £23.20 each.

Not got that sort of money, so its gonna be posts on various forums to see if anybody can help out, and for less Beer Tokens.

So at the moment the rebuild has ground to another halt. So not sure when the next update will be - just gonna have to keep checking back,

UPDATE **** have sourced a set of working carbs, should be here sometime next week. ****
