6th February 2023 - Disco Transit Green Long Wheel base and Hi Roof Conversion

Published on 7 February 2023 at 01:28

Hi Folks

the start of a new week and hopefully more visible stuff done on the conversion.

What a weekend.
We both feel that we have made a huge leap forward that can only hopefully spur me on during the week and hopefully next weekend, start to do some panelling!!
(well me made a small start on panelling on Sunday!)

Updated - Jobs pencilled in till Sunday

Ok we did not get everything done last week, so for now, I will not add any new jobs to last weeks list...
Well not quiet !! as a few jobs are pencilled in that involve me & the transit heading back over to Kev's workshop for more things to be done..

1. Finish the frame work around the portaloo. - Need to make sink mounts when parts arrive
2. Add cross batons to bathroom/kitchen wall. -Need to make sink mounts when parts arrive
3. add sound proofing/insulation to bathroom/kitchen wall. - Started - as above
4. find position for sink in bathroom. - PARTS ARRIVED LATE SUNDAY
5. add extra supports to mount the sink. - PARTS ARRIVED LATE SUNDAY
6. Panel the bulkhead battery frame work.
7. Area next to passenger door, needs washing and going over with wire wool.
8. Finish adding sound proof pads - loads done Saturday & Sunday - need more pads As funds allow
9. Insulate Bathroom - roof done with 1st layer, side wall nearly done - waiting on parts
10. Clean old original panels - Lynne has just about washed every panel she can get too so far
11. Glue extra Insulation in the inside of the panels.

12. Paint the panels - Started late Sunday
13. put them back were they belong.

14. Kev's workshop - Make some brackets and install roof rack on roof of transit. (Funds ring fenced)
15. Kev's workshop - If time and funds allow, get water tanks installed underneath and plumbed into the back. (have some funds available but I know it will not be enough!)

Double Bonus job, to have worked out and cut the bed frame & have it mounted!

As can be seen we have made inroads on most of the items on this list, but some are held up waiting on funds to buy the items needed.

These daily updates of jobs, altho sometimes frustrating, but also very helpful, as we can see clearly what is happening were and what is being held up thru lack of funds..

Things are not all bad tho, as I have materials and items, that once I need parts, I can move onto something else.
Obviously this will not last, but for now it means things are being done every day..

TUPARKA 36 Pieces 3D Butterfly Wall Stickers Wall Butterflies Girls Bedroom Accessories Multi-Color Optional (Purple) (Amazon)

We are both convinced that Timothy came and visited us as a butterfly many times and still does.
We often see just 1 butterfly when he should not be around.
I saw these and knew Lynne would fall in love like me, and boy did she...

bonna Radiator Reflector Panels, Radiator Reflector foil for Wall Mounted Radiator, Insulation foil with High Performance Reflective Bubble,(5m x 0.6m - 3mm) (Amazon)

I could not find any of the black foam insulation we have been using, and what I did find was bloody expensive, and then saw this so thought why not.

So now we can carry on with insulating the van as and when we need to or need a dust free job, whilst paint is drying.

Art3d 30 * 30cm Stick on Tiles,Peel and Stick Subway Tile Backsplash, Shiny White(10-Pack) (Amazon)

For the bathroom/kitchen wall near the cooker.
And after seeing them we may as funds allow do the bathroom in them.

Wonderful Antique Copper 5x5'' Wall Shelf Brackets from a GNER Steam Railway Carriage (1Pair) - Cast Iron (Amazon)

Altho the bathroom sick will be mounted by 8mm bolts thru the bathroom/kitchen wall,

I wanted something strong enough in case I had a fall in the bathroom and I lent on the sink.
Me n Lynne spent sorting thru different brackets before we settled on this pair.
And a nod to our Railway heritage & our love of Steam Railways.

Timco 35040SOLOC PZ2 CSK ZYP Solo Woodscrew 3.5 x 40 - Yellow (Box of 200) , Gold x2

(Amazon)

The most used size so far in the conversion, and I am not sure 4 boxes of these will be enough!

J Type Fire Extinguisher Wall Bracket x2 (Amazon)

Ok only got 1 fire extinguisher at the moment, but brought 2 to have  a look at them, for another job I have in mind..

General Purpose woodscrew Trade Pack: zinc and Yellow Plated; 5 Sizes; 1000 Pieces (Amazon)

Wish I had spotted this selection earlier, could have saved me a few quid !!

I have given up on the postie, I am presuming they are on strike or he is way behind schedule.
On the way out I grab a bin liner and I soon have it nice n full and my old shopping bags empty..

The paint has dried nicely over night, so my next job, will be to give it another coat of paint.
Hopefully that will cover it nicely, so I do not have to give it a 3rd coat.

2nd and 3rd coats are done, now just got to wait for it to dry.
I am hoping that the paint coverage is good enough to not require another coat.

It is not as if it will be seen, once the kitchen unit is bolted into place.

I will give the paint about an hour and then come back
(Gonna list more cables from the disco items we pulled out from the disco Room yesterday..)

and start to tidy this lot up again, so that I can carry on working in the bathroom..

Now that is looking a lot better and it's great not having to worry if I trip over anything..

I even get the portaloo throne area cleared

I unscrew the frame work from the raised floor.

I get the workmate out, cover it and get ready to paint this frame..

and give as much of the frame as I can with its 1st coat of paint.

and whilst the frame is drying, I get on a paint the raised floor frame work, with it's 1st coat.

I cannot do it all as I cannot get to the newspaper and clear the kitchen top, so I can lay it sort of flat,

So I paint as much as I can reach.

I wipe the raised area and the front with a Tak cloth.

and on goes it's 1st coat of paint.

and finally I get the front painted as well.

It is now getting cooler in the back of the transit, and the paint is not drying as quick, so as I cannot do anymore I go into the house.

I am back out, but it is bloody cold, and the radiator is buried, so not gonna be out here long...

I give the portaloo plinth it's 2nd coat of paint.

Thr front also get's it's 2nd coat and looks as if it does not need another, but we will wait n see what it is like in the morning...

I turn this framework upside down and give the rest of it it's 1st coat of paint.

And the same treatment happens on this frame as well.

When they are painted and dry, they will be screwed together :) :)

Today was one of those day's I did not really want to get stuck into anything with teh conversion, So today has mainly been about prepping and painting.

I did miss having Lynne around terribly, it never ceases to amaze me just how quick I get used to working with her, and just how hard it is to carry on when she is not around..

Hopefully tomorrow I will be back to normal and get on with it..
