3rd April 2014 - Honda Big One CB1000F (P) Update.

Published on 5 September 2022 at 21:42

Finally managed to feel up to going down the workshop, but just to get away from everything, to chill n reflect.

But then things don't always go as planed! do they?

mmm really struggling to get this bit to sit right.
So I leave it for now

Its tight but it does fit

Wrong connector fitted for the replacement loom

I notice a break in the insulator, ok its only an earth wire, but decide to replace it anyway.

off comes the right indicator lens and I undo the screws and pull the earth wire thru.

and I soon have the earth wire removed and ready to use

So have to think of another way,
I look thru my penny washer box and find a large one, and after test fitting and marking drill an extra hole

I pull down the ring connectors

Find a 6mm bolt

and its all bolted into place

suitable bullet fitted to earth lead

I fit the flasher unit, but wiring is very tight!

Will leave for now, but on checking frame dimensions the import indicator mount is 1cm further back than the UK spec, so when I do a full strip , I wll either move the flasher unit or add a little bit to the loom.

This side looks good so will leave it alone :)But need to change the connectors

rear mudguard

Trying to find out what the round 3 wire socket is for, I cant find it on either US or UK Spec Big Ones, but for the cbr1000f hurricane, it could be the fuel pump! only one wire is diff colour, so more research gonna be needed

but the rest was relatively easy

Temp sensor connector fitted

Ignition coil 2 and 4 took a bit of feeding thru to get it right and have enough wire to fit to the coil.

From the replacement loom, its been hacked and is too short!

So I cut of the fan switch connector from the old loom

I have purposely used this colour tape, to remind me to sort on full rebuild

Apart comes the old switch gear

The replacement I got from ebay for £4.00

but decide to replace the master cylinder first

and soon afterwards off comes the old master cylinder

and its soon fitted

and air bubbles start to come thru, so will leave it for a while

but the threads are gone in the top switch gear, and i don't want to drill a hole in the top like mine.

I have run out of 4mm heli coils, so will use my old one

and my old top switch gear is mated to the replacement switches

right switch gear wires out of the way

and feed the main loom thru

Its getting late now and hungers striking, so gonna leave it hear today.

Tomorrow gotta remove this lot so I can get to the alternator and replace the winding's.

Hopefully should have it all back together the same day.

I think still a few more days, before i can refit the battery and test everything, so fingers crossed that next week we can go out on it

So started to feed the replacement loom thru the battery box area and between the frame and rear mud guard.

Fuse box fitted and made sure correct fuses fitted.

and continue to feed the wires thru the rear end.

and I do up the top rear mud guard mounts

So down come the bullet boxes

I don't have any spare motorcycle wire, as its all at Mazchopz waiting to be used on CBRTIM, but I find this old lead from the stage lighting trash bag

Ive removed the indicator to make feeding the wire thru easier, but its just to thick

Its too big at the top, so bend it over

and find a suitable one

and using a penny washer bent over (for a tab and because not enough room )

Indicator facing the right way and the wires fed thru

and connected to earth multi block in replacement loom

As I cant test at the moment pull the manual out and the uk & us speck diagrams are together

Not that it matters as for indicator wires they are the same

the rear light area, all connected to the loom and covered up

rear mounts bolted up

If took ages to feed thru the replacement loom thru the carbs

hanging out the front of the bike

Ignition Coil 1 and 3 wired up

the fan switch

and join it together, for now with connectors, but will soldier when I strip the whole bike down

and it soon feeds thru and is connected, its a bit long now, but I will sort that out later on.

Right time to start on the right side of the handle bars.

and its soon removed and labelled up

Soon on handle bars

off comes the lever

The replacement is from the 400 big one, again got of ebay for £34.99. not using the std bolts tho

time for some fluid

On goes the brake lever

it soon comes away

and its all done up

Ok my old one don't have the light switch positions on it, but as only off side and headlight should be ok.

I have a permanent search on Ebay for Big One parts, so maybe a better one will turn up sometime.

on goes the head lamp shell

the right hand switch gear wiring soon follows

and is connected up.
